SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE ARTICLE

The Historic Frederick Douglass High School Alumni Association, Inc. Scholarship Committee will meet on April 6-7, 2017 to conduct interviews for graduating seniors who have submitted scholarship applications for the 2017 Alumni Association Scholarship Awards.  The names of the students who are selected will be announced on Alumni Day, Friday, May 5, 2017.

Last year (2016) nine (9) students were awarded $2,000.00 scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year on Alumni Day for a total amount awarded of $18,000.00.  We are proud to report that ninety percent of the students who were awarded scholarship funds attended a college or university and could collect the above-mentioned gratuities.

Prior to receiving a check for the scholarship awarded, students are required to provide verification of enrollment at their chosen institution, as well as a ‘thank-you’ to the scholarship donor.  If the student fails to provide these two (2) items, then scholarship funds are not released.  Those funds will remain in the Association’s scholarship account for awarding to future students.

Keeping this in mind, you must understand that fundraising for awarding scholarships to deserving students is an ongoing process.  We depend on the alumni and graduating classes to make annual donations for this purpose.    All alumni and classes are encouraged to contribute to the Alumni Association Scholarship fund in the name of your class or organization so that we may continue to recognize and reward the hard work of our students by aiding graduating seniors in pursuit of their higher education goals.  This is essential if we want to continue to preserve the history and rich legacy of the Historic Frederick Douglass High School Alumni Association, Inc. We know that we can count on you!

Contributions may be sent to the Historic Frederick Douglass High School Alumni Association, Inc., P.O. Box 25151, Baltimore, Maryland 21229.
